ConnectiKids summer theme this year is Culture and Legacy! This unique focus promotes student engagement, learning, and achievement by centering their knowledge, cultural backgrounds, and everyday experiences, allowing students to explore and discover themselves. Students will engage with educational content in personally meaningful ways, build purpose, counter stereotypes, and develop their ability to connect across lines of difference. Students will reflect on their cultural lens, recognize, and govern their bias, draw on their cultural adventures, discuss real-world experiences, promote respect for their culture and others, collaborate with their families, friends, and the community, and share their knowledge at the end of the program.
During the morning portion, students participate in Book club. The book club will include culturally relevant paperbacks. The book club offers students a wide range of books with stimulating class discussions and activities. This summer’s book is Hello, Universe by Eric Entrada Kelly.
In the afternoon portion of the summer program, students will participate in activities that expose them to learning history, friendships, exploration, and much more. The four core afternoon classes offered will be, discovering and exploring identities- students will learn about family history and different cultures . Mind and soul along with Physical health and mental growth – are two classes where students will explore how to take care of their physical, emotional, and mental being. The nutrition class will talk about positive eating habit while highlighting food from the cultures of our studnets.
